May Tribe of the Month

Through the Y Guides program, tribes become closer and more connected to each other and the community. During the first two years, tribes are focused on growing and creating a bond that can last a lifetime. During the Third Year, the year of service, tribes are encouraged to go out into the community and give back to others.

TRIBE OF THE MONTH: Brave Braves

This year, the Brave Braves were bestowed with the “2016 Touched by an Angel Award” from the Helping Hand Mission. The award was given to the Brave Braves’ as a thank you for their support in helping the downtrodden and in touching lives throughout Raleigh, Wake County and the State of North Carolina.

The amount of winter clothing, hats, scarves and gloves the tribe collected allowed the Helping Hand organization to assist many families on a one-on-one basis.

The Brave Braves also volunteered at the third year service event with Stop Hunger Now. One little brave, Jonathan Ross, said that this event was the most memorable event of the year. “We worked together as a team to prepare meals for people and it was fun. When the bell rang, we knew that more and more meals had been prepared.”

When the tribe reflected on what they learned from their acts of service, Jack Boyne stated, “We need to give things that we are lucky to have. If you have too much of something, you should give it to the poor, especially when it provides children with something to play with.”

By working together to collect supplies, such as clothing and food, the Brave Braves tribe was then able to help the community by donating their collection to people in need. The tribe worked hard towards one goal of giving back and by doing so, was able to see how small actions can make a huge difference.

Thank you Brave Braves for all of your hard work and service!
