Pals and Friends,
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of Desmond “Blue Whale” Miller from the Y Guides team. After nearly two years of dedicated service, Desmond will be moving on to new opportunities.
Desmond has been an integral part of our team, bringing a positive and collaborative spirit that has made a lasting impact on all of us. His ability to build relationships and foster connections has been truly commendable, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere within our team, office, and the YMCA as a whole. In his time with the Y Guides, Desmond has touched the lives of countless Dads and kids at our outings, events, and over the phone with his signature “Blue Whale” Woo.
Desmond not only had a profound impact on the Y Guides community, but he also had a significant role in securing a grant that provided free swim lessons to adults in our community. This program helped over 100 adults learn the life-saving skill of swimming. Additionally, Desmond shared his experience and philosophy with others by presenting about "Leaving a Legacy" at the 2023 Regional Emerging Multicultural Leadership Experience (REMLE) Conference at the YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge.
As we bid farewell to Desmond, let's take a moment to express our gratitude for the dedication, hard work, and positive energy he brought to the table each day. His presence will be missed, but we know that new adventures await him in the future.
