Alexa “Dancing Bird” and Kyra “Twirling Monkey” were talking to their Dad one night concerning a tragedy that had happened in their neighborhood.
On January 7, 2013, Jason and Jessica Beyer endured a terrible event in their home in Raleigh, NC. While they slept, two armed men invaded their home. Having suffered a gunshot wound to the back, Jason sustained a spinal injury and is now in need of considerable rehabilitation and accommodation.
Alexa and Kyra started brainstorming ideas with their dad, Brian, on how they could help the couple. “They started off with a bake sale, bless their hearts, but realized that wouldn’t be big enough,” Brian said. After some discussion, they decided a fundraising walk would be a great idea. By 10 a.m. the next day, both the Singing Sharks Tribe and the Freebirds Tribe were fully committed and ready to help.
The Princesses and Big Guides in both Tribes have been actively helping to plan the event. Brian’s hope is that it will give the girls a sense of accomplishment and pride in knowing that their efforts are helping a couple in need. “It's not about how much money they will raise, it's about the fact that any money they raise will make a difference and it will be because of their efforts.”
Alexa “Dancing Bird” said, “I'm doing this because I want to help Mr. Jason and Miss Jess out by walking in the walk to help raise money for their house.” Kyra “Twirling Monkey” hopes that everyone can help out a little bit by sponsoring her on the walk.
You can help the Singing Sharks and the Freebirds Tribes by supporting Jason and Jessica and get involved! You’ll be able to earn a really cool patch by helping a great cause!
