The Respite invites you and your family to visit this new, privately-owned, land-based retreat and remote campground 40 minutes north of Durham, 55 minutes north of Raleigh. Located in a rare alluvial forest of the Piedmont amidst rolling foothill farmland, Kristen Cox is stewarding 23 acres of woodland, floodplain wetland and pastureland, part of the Upper Tar River Basin, a new registered NC Natural Heritage Area, which is home to five species of endangered freshwater mussels. Come dig for shells, wade in the creek, forage for wild edible grasses, hang your hammock beneath an old hardwood stand, bird watch, fish, walk the trail, bike these backcountry farmland roads, or just take in the nature surround sounds. Shared with land partner Handèwa Farms, Respite in the Round is also a two-story treehouse turned land-based retreat offering individuals and small groups a place for rest, connection, creative making, grounding and vision-setting. Together, we offer nature-based immersion for all who visit.
Book your campsite for your Crew! Sites #3 and #4 connect and can accommodate groups of 10 - 20.
